Grow your own medicinal garden and get to know these herbs on a deeper level. All these plants make tasty teas, fresh or dried, with health supporting benefits. Sometimes the only medicine you need is to simply be near plants. These herbs are happy planted in pots, raised beds or in the ground. 

Growing Tips: 

Holy Basil - start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost, can be directly sown outdoors if you have a long growing season. Prefers warm, sunny locations, continually pinch back flowers to stimulate more leaf growth. Grown as an annual, leaves are used for tea and tincture.

German Chamomile - lightly sprinkle on the surface of the soil after risk of frost, can tolerate light frost. This self-seeding annual prefers sunny well drained soil, does not require lots of water. Flowers are used medicinally, harvesting encourages more blossoms. 

Lemon Balm - direct sow outdoors after risk of frost. Grow in full to part sun. Leaves are used medicinally with a yummy lemony flavour. This perennial comes back in early spring, providing medicine for many months. 

Calendula - direct sow after risk of frost. Enjoy hardy blooms all season long. Petals are edible for salads, while the whole flower is used in tea, tinctures and oils. An annual that will self-seed. 

Yarrow - Direct sow after risk of frost or start indoors 4-6 week before the last frost. Prefers well drained soil and sunshine. A native perennial flower to BC that smells like honey. Flowers for tea, tincture and oils while leaves are great topically to stop bleeding.
